The area is bordered by Bass Strait to the north and features a mix of residential properties and holiday homes. The beach is accessible via Route A2 (Bass Highway), which runs through the locality from northeast to northwest. The name "Edgcumbe" is believed to be derived from an early settler, Mary Edgcumbe.
