Dumaresq Dam Reserve, established between 1896 and 1898, was Armidale's primary water source until 1968. Today, it serves as a recreational haven featuring a 2.5-kilometre walking track through eucalypt woodlands, offering excellent birdwatching opportunities. The dam is stocked with trout and occasionally bass, providing ample fishing prospects. Amenities include picnic areas, barbecue facilities, a boat ramp for canoes and kayaks, and camping sites. A contemporary amenities block and a nature playground enhance the visitor experience. The reserve is home to 27 endangered species, including two critically endangered species; dogs are not permitted.
