Dorre Island, located in Shark Bay, Western Australia, is part of the Bernier and Dorre Island Nature Reserve within the Shark Bay World Heritage area. The island is home to threatened species such as the banded hare-wallaby and the rufous hare-wallaby. In the early 1900s, Dorre Island, along with Bernier Island, served as a lock hospital for Aboriginal people suspected of having venereal diseases. Today, the island remains uninhabited and is accessible only with special permission, primarily for conservation and research purposes.
