Doctors Rocks is a picturesque coastal locality situated approximately 8 kilometers east of Wynyard in Tasmania's northwest region. Renowned for its distinctive basalt outcrop extending 100 meters into Bass Strait, the area offers stunning views and is a favored spot to capture Tasmanian sunsets. The surrounding conservation area is home to a significant population of little penguins, with large groups nesting on the immediate west and eastern sides of the rocks. The area also features a narrow coastal reserve approximately 7 kilometers long, characterized by rocky terrain and small sandy beaches. Historically, the terrain posed challenges for early road builders, leading to the construction of a narrow roadway behind the rocks, which was the scene of many serious accidents before modern vehicular traffic necessitated major earth-moving and re-siting of the main road further away from the rocks.
