The Dandongadale River, originating below Cobbler Plateau in Victoria's Alpine National Park, meanders through dense forests and rugged terrains, descending 959 meters over its 41-kilometer journey. Notably, it feeds into Lake Cobbler, a serene 5-hectare lake formed in the 1960s by damming a swamp area in the river's headwaters. Beyond the lake, the river cascades over the Dandongadale Falls, the highest waterfall in Victoria, plunging 255 meters. The area offers dispersed camping along the riverbanks, with access requiring a walk from the Rose River Road bridge. Visitors can enjoy fishing for small brown and rainbow trout, as well as blackfish and redfin, amidst the tranquil natural surroundings.
