Currie Harbour, located on King Island's west coast, serves as the island's primary port and administrative center. Established in the 1840s, it was originally known as Howie's Boat Harbour, named after early settler David Howie. The harbour gained prominence in 1866 when shipowner Archibald Currie used it as a base for salvaging the wrecked ship Netherby. Over time, Currie Harbour has evolved into a bustling hub, offering picturesque views of Bass Strait and a range of facilities for both locals and visitors. The area is also home to the historic Currie Lighthouse, built in 1879, which continues to guide mariners navigating the challenging waters of Bass Strait.
