Cowcowing Lakes

Cowcowing Lake, situated approximately 26 kilometers north of Wyalkatchem on the Wyalkatchem Koorda Road, spans about 15,000 hectares. This expansive salt lake undergoes seasonal transformations, shifting from a wetland to a dry salt crust or dusty plain as it cycles through wet and dry periods. The lake's name, derived from the Aboriginal term "Gow gow eeh lake," remains of uncertain meaning. The surrounding area is characterized by dense salt-tolerant vegetation, offering a unique landscape that attracts nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.
