Cowcowing Lakes

Cowcowing Lake, situated approximately 26 kilometers north of Wyalkatchem on the Wyalkatchem Koorda Road, spans about 15,000 hectares. This expansive salt lake undergoes seasonal transformations, transitioning from a wetland to a dry salt crust or dusty plain as it cycles through wet and dry periods. The surrounding area is characterized by dense salt-tolerant vegetation, offering a unique landscape that attracts nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. The lake's name, derived from the Aboriginal term "Gow gow eeh lake," remains of uncertain meaning.
