Cowcowing Lakes, located approximately 26 kilometers north of Wyalkatchem on the Wyalkatchem Koorda Road, is a vast saltpan spanning about 15,000 hectares. This seasonal lake undergoes dramatic transformations, filling with water during wetter months and drying into a salt crust or dusty plain in summer. Surrounded by dense, salt-tolerant vegetation, the area offers a unique landscape for nature enthusiasts. Historically, the nearby town of Cowcowing originated as a railway siding and was gazetted as a townsite in 1919.
