Cowcowing Lakes, situated approximately 26 kilometers north of Wyalkatchem on the Wyalkatchem Koorda Road, is a vast saltpan spanning around 15,000 hectares. This seasonal lake undergoes dramatic transformations, filling with water during wetter months and drying into a salt crust or dusty plain in summer. Surrounded by dense, salt-tolerant vegetation, the area offers a unique landscape for nature enthusiasts. The name "Cowcowing" is of Aboriginal origin, first recorded by explorers in 1854, though its exact meaning remains unknown.
