Cowcowing Lakes

Cowcowing Lakes, situated approximately 26 kilometers north of Wyalkatchem on the Wyalkatchem Koorda Road, is a vast saltpan spanning around 15,000 hectares. This seasonal lake undergoes dramatic transformations, filling with water during wetter periods and drying into a salt crust or dusty plain in the summer months. Surrounded by dense, salt-tolerant vegetation, the area offers a unique landscape that attracts nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. The lake's name, derived from the Aboriginal term "Gow gow eeh lake," reflects its deep-rooted cultural significance.
