The Convict Church at Port Arthur, Tasmania, is a historic ruin that once stood as a testament to the convict-built architecture of the 19th century. Constructed between 1836 and 1837, this Gothic Revival-style church was designed to accommodate over 1,000 worshippers. It was never consecrated, serving instead as a non-denominational place of worship for convicts of various faiths. The church was destroyed by fire in 1884, and today, its stone walls remain, offering visitors a glimpse into the past. A sound installation of Port Arthur’s original bells can be heard throughout the day, adding to the site's historical ambiance. The ruin is open to visitors daily from 9:00 am until dusk, with access included in the Site Entry Pass.
