
Located at 36 Fraser Street, Clunes VIC 3370, the Clunes Museum is housed in the historic former Warehouse (c.1860) of contractors Nichol and Wallace. The museum offers a range of permanent exhibitions, including: - **The Gold Room**: Artifacts related to natural history, the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the pastoral era, and the discovery of gold. Highlights include a 19th-century taxidermy cabinet of local native fauna and a miner's cradle. - **Sir John Longstaff Kitchen**: A recreation of a typical 19th-century miner's cottage kitchen, inspired by Longstaff's 1887 masterpiece "Breaking the News." - **Laura Hudson Parlour**: Reflects the domestic life of Laura Hudson (1848-1953) and the contents of a typical miner's cottage parlour. - **Rivett Bland / Mayor's Room**: Displays items related to the mining era, the Borough of Clunes era of local government, and the church history of Clunes. - **Holly Barkell Gallery**: Contains a collection of artifacts reflecting the musical, industrial, farming, fire brigade, dressmaking, educational, and military heritage of the district. The museum operates with a voluntary gold coin donation for entry. It is open Monday, Wednesday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm (closed 1:15 pm to 2 pm), and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm (subject to volunteer availability). The entrance is from Collins Place through the reception area of the Warehouse; the old entrance from Fraser Street is no longer in use.
