Chichester Dam, constructed between 1915 and 1926, is a concrete gravity dam located upstream of Dungog in the Hunter Region. It serves as a vital freshwater storage facility, contributing about 35% of the Lower Hunter's potable water supply. The dam wall is 254 meters long and 43 meters high, anchored to the bedrock by 93 stressed tendons. The catchment area, largely within the Barrington Tops National Park, is one of the most pristine in Australia. To protect the dam, activities such as swimming, boating, and motorized sports are prohibited. Dogs are also not permitted on the premises. All roads within the site are sealed and accessible by coaches.
