The Channel Museum, located at 1755 Channel Highway in Margate, Tasmania, celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel region. Housed in a modern, purpose-built facility, the museum features permanent exhibitions that delve into the area's history, including displays on early exploration, Aboriginal heritage, timber and boat building, fruit and tobacco cultivation, fishing, transport, and the 1967 bushfires. Specialty exhibits showcase the Electrona Carbide Works, the Don Norton Camera Collection, and the life of Dutch migrants. A separate exhibition space houses vintage farming machinery. The museum also offers a gallery featuring local artists and organizations, a research room with an extensive collection of Channel family histories, and a café serving delicious snacks, meals, and drinks made on-site from local ingredients. Open Sunday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the museum welcomes visitors from near and far to explore and appreciate the rich history of the region.
