Carbunup River is a tranquil town in Western Australia's South West region, nestled between Dunsborough and Margaret River along the Carbunup River. Established in 1926 and renamed in 1958 to avoid confusion with Carbarup, the town's name is derived from the Aboriginal word "Carbunup," meaning "place of a kindly stream," "place of cormorants," or "place of the stinkwood thicket." As of the 2021 census, it has a population of 112 residents. The area is predominantly rural, with a median age of 44 years. Local attractions include the Discover Deadly reptile education centre, located at 10 Wildwood Road.
