Cape Barren Island, known as truwana, is a 478-square-kilometre island in Bass Strait, off Tasmania's north-east coast. As the second-largest of the Furneaux Group, it features diverse landscapes, including sandy beaches, coastal heathlands, and wetlands. The highest point is Mount Munro at 715 metres. The island is home to an Aboriginal community of approximately 70 residents, descended from European sealers and Aboriginal women who relocated in the late 1870s. The east coast lagoons are a Ramsar-listed site, supporting rare plant species and waterbirds. Access is via scheduled flights from Launceston to Flinders Island, followed by a short boat trip.
