Cannawigara is a tranquil locality in South Australia's Limestone Coast region, situated approximately 264 kilometers southeast of Adelaide and 10 kilometers northwest of Bordertown. The area is traversed by the Dukes Highway and the Adelaide-Melbourne railway line, with Cannawigara Road extending westward from the highway. The name "Cannawigara" originates from an 1851 pastoral lease and is an Aboriginal term meaning "a long line of gum trees" or "a pathway of sticks over soft ground," representing one of the six clans in the Tatiara region. The locality is renowned for its onion cultivation, featuring a substantial packing shed near the former railway siding.
