Cabbage Tree Island, located in the Northern Rivers Region of New South Wales, is a predominantly Aboriginal community within Ballina Shire. Established as an Aboriginal reserve in 1893, it has a rich history of self-sufficiency, with residents engaging in cane farming and maintaining their own food gardens. The island is home to the Cabbage Tree Island Public School, serving the local community. In September 2023, the Jali Aboriginal Land Council announced plans to relocate residents to new homes on the mainland due to flood risks.
