Nestled near the headwaters of the Murrumbidgee River, approximately 100 kilometers from Canberra and 55 kilometers southwest of Yass, Burrinjuck Power Station harnesses the energy of the Murrumbidgee River to generate electricity. The station operates three turbines, delivering a combined capacity of 28 megawatts. Originally commissioned in 1928, the facility underwent significant upgrades in 2017, enhancing its efficiency and output. The power station plays a vital role in supporting the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, supplying water for agriculture, industry, and domestic use, while also contributing to flood mitigation and environmental flows.
