Venue

Normanton, QLD

Located approximately 36 kilometers southwest of Normanton along the Burketown-Normanton Road, Burke & Wills Camp 119 marks the northernmost point reached by the ill-fated 1860-61 Victorian Exploration Expedition. On February 9, 1861, Robert O'Hara Burke, William John Wills, John King, and Charlie Gray established this camp near the Little Bynoe River. The site features plaques commemorating the explorers' journey and the blazed trees they left behind as markers. A 1.5-kilometer drive from the main road leads visitors to the camp, where interpretive signage provides historical context.
