Nestled on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, Bundagen Co-operative is a rural land-sharing community and wildlife sanctuary. Established in 1981, it spans 313 hectares of private property, bordered by Bongil Bongil National Park and featuring a headland and ocean beach. The community comprises approximately 180 members living in twelve village areas, all committed to social harmony, environmental responsibility, and economic independence. Bundagen operates independently of mains water, sewerage, and electricity, utilizing alternative technologies like solar power and composting toilets. The co-operative emphasizes low-impact development, organic gardening, and the regeneration of native vegetation in environmentally fragile areas. A significant portion of the land is protected under a formal Conservation Agreement, reflecting the community's dedication to environmental stewardship. Residents engage in various communal activities, including working bees, yoga, and music sessions, fostering a strong sense of community and shared responsibility. Membership is closed, with each member holding an equal share and voice in decision-making processes. Bundagen's unique blend of sustainable living and communal harmony offers a distinctive lifestyle in a picturesque coastal setting.
