Brimbin Nature Reserve, located just 9 km north of Taree, offers a tranquil retreat with mangrove-lined waterways ideal for canoeing, walking, birdwatching, and picnicking. The reserve features two walking tracks: the 1.5 km Dawson River walking track, which follows the mangrove-lined waterway and joins with the historic bullock route of Old Port Macquarie Road, and the 1.5 km Ms Kellys walking track, which follows a historic bullock route and takes in landmarks significant to the area’s historic heritage. The area is also home to an endangered species of eucalypt, the narrow-leaved red gum, which provides important food and habitat for koalas.
