Located 34 kilometers north of Moranbah in Queensland's Bowen Basin, Broadmeadow Mine is a longwall underground coal operation. As part of the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), a 50:50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Development, the mine produces high-quality coking coal essential for steelmaking. Coal from Broadmeadow is processed jointly with coal from the Goonyella Riverside open-cut operation. The mine commenced operations in 2005 and has a production capacity of up to 4.8 million tonnes per annum.
