Bethel, located west of Kapunda in South Australia's Light Regional Council, is a historic locality established around 1854 by German-speaking settlers aiming to create a Moravian Brethren community. The name "Bethel" translates to "Place of God." Over time, the community evolved, with the Bethel congregation severing its links with the Moravians and calling a Lutheran pastor in the 1890s. The Steinthal church closed and combined in 1906. The school was closed by the state government in 1917 along with many others that taught in German. Today, Bethel remains a small, tranquil area, offering a glimpse into South Australia's rich cultural heritage.
