Established in 1842, Bethany Pioneer Cemetery is one of the Barossa Valley's oldest cemeteries, reflecting the hardships of early German Lutheran settlers. Notably, over 132 children are interred on its eastern side, highlighting the community's early challenges. The cemetery's oldest surviving tombstones commemorate Christian Seidel (1786–1877), Anna Marie Hohnberg (1794–1875), and Marie Charlotte Meyer (1787–1866). A time capsule, commemorating 150 years of settlement, was laid on 31st December 1992, to be reopened in 2042.
