Established on April 26, 2013, it encompasses about 627 square kilometers. The area is traversed by the Carrieton-Barata Road, the Carrieton-Belton Road, and the Weira Creek. Historically, Belton was proclaimed as a government town in 1882, with a post office operating from 1883 until its closure in 1969. The locality's population has experienced growth, with 302 residents recorded in 2011.
