Located in the East Wing of the heritage-listed Bathurst Courthouse, the Bathurst District Historical Society Museum showcases over 8,000 artifacts that chronicle the region's rich history. Exhibits include items from the colonial era, gold mining, and bushranging, as well as memorabilia related to Australia's 16th Prime Minister, Joseph Benedict Chifley. The museum also houses extensive family history records in its archives, available for research. Adjacent to the museum, Old Government Cottage offers a glimpse into early Bathurst life, with guided tours available on the fourth Sunday of each month. The museum operates on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 am to 2 pm, with entry fees applicable.
