The Barossa Colonel Light Monument, a life-size bronze statue of Colonel William Light on horseback, commemorates the birthplace of the Barossa Valley. Unveiled in 2016 by the Lyndoch & District Historical Society, the monument stands on a seven-ton marble pedestal, making it the largest of its kind in South Australia. Colonel Light, founder of Adelaide and first Surveyor-General of South Australia, traversed this area on December 13, 1837, naming the town Lyndoch and the surrounding hills Barossa. The monument is open to the public seven days a week.
