Established in 1855 when Captain C.H. Bagot's well became publicly accessible, the area was officially named Bagot Well in 1940. The locality encompasses 74.36 square kilometers and is part of the Light Regional Council. Historically, it was served by the Morgan railway line from 1878 until its closure in 1994.
