Located at the intersection of Karoonda Highway and Billiatt Road in Alawoona, South Australia, the Alawoona District Pioneer Monument commemorates the pioneers and settlers of the Hundred of Allen from 1913. Unveiled on November 6, 1988, this cairn honors the contributions of early inhabitants to the region's development. Alawoona, established in 1914, derives its name from the local Aboriginal term meaning "place of hot winds." The town was once a significant rail junction in the Murray Mallee, with the railway line completed through Alawoona to Brown’s Well by January 1913.
