Ajana, located in Western Australia's Mid West region, is a small townsite within the Shire of Northampton. Situated at the junction of Ajana-Kalbarri Road and Ajana Back Road, it lies approximately 53 kilometers north of Northampton and 61 kilometers southwest of Kalbarri. Established in 1915, Ajana was once the terminus of the first government railway line in Western Australia, which was extended to encourage the development of lead mining and agriculture in the area. The railway station opened on January 6, 1913, and the townsite was declared on November 26, 1915. The railway line and Ajana station closed on April 29, 1957. The name 'Ajana' is believed to be of Aboriginal origin, possibly the Nanda name for the area or derived from a similar word meaning 'mine'. Today, Ajana is a quiet rural locality, offering a glimpse into Western Australia's historical development and natural beauty.
