Established in 1982, the community is home to around 160 residents who speak Jaru as their primary language. The Birlirr Ngawiyiwu Catholic School, serving children from Kindergarten to Year Six, emphasizes a curriculum that honors Jaru history, culture, and traditions. The community also boasts a store offering essential goods and a small clinic staffed by a nurse and visiting doctor. Recent developments include a new basketball court, providing a safe space for youth engagement and community activities.
