Point Puer, established in 1834, was the first British institution designed to reform young male convicts. Located on a narrow peninsula near Port Arthur, Tasmania, it housed boys aged 10 to 14, offering education, trade training, and religious instruction. The boys engaged in various trades, including shoemaking, tailoring, carpentry, and stone masonry. Despite its intentions, the institution faced challenges, and its effectiveness in reforming the boys varied. Point Puer ceased operations in 1849, after approximately 3,000 boys had passed through its gates.
