Eraring Power Station, located near Dora Creek on the western shore of Lake Macquarie, is Australia's largest coal-fired power plant, generating approximately 25% of New South Wales' electricity. The facility comprises four 720 MW units, totaling 2,880 MW, and has been operational since 1984. In response to the evolving energy market, Origin Energy has announced plans to close the station by August 2027, with potential extensions until April 2029. To support the transition to renewable energy, a 700 MW battery storage system is under development on-site, aiming to enhance grid stability and integrate renewable sources effectively.
