The Oodla Wirra Quarantine Station, situated on the Barrier Highway in Oodla Wirra, South Australia, plays a crucial role in safeguarding the state's fruit fly-free status. Established in 1960, it conducts inspections of vehicles entering from New South Wales and Queensland, regions where fruit fly is endemic. The station operates 16 hours a day from 1 September to 30 November and extends to 24-hour operations during the peak risk period from 1 December to 31 March. For after-hours disposal of restricted items, quarantine bins are available at the station.
