The Ngukurr Language Centre, established in 1999, is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to revitalising, documenting, teaching, and promoting the traditional languages of Ngukurr, a large Aboriginal community in southern Arnhem Land. The centre offers community-based language programs for languages such as Alawa, Marra, Warndarrang, Ngandi, Ngalakgan, Rembarrnga, Wubuy (Nunggubuyu), Wägilak, and Ritharrŋu, as well as Kriol, the main language spoken in Ngukurr today. Overseen by an Indigenous board of directors, the centre employs a part-time coordinator, a part-time linguist, and a team of language workers and consultants.
