Ngaruwanajirri, meaning 'helping one another' in Tiwi, is an art centre located in Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island. Housed in the heritage-listed Ngaruwanajirri Building, also known as The Keeping Place or the 'Tiwi Sistine Chapel,' the centre provides a peaceful environment for Tiwi artists to create daily. The artists produce works in various media, including traditional ochre paintings, watercolours, and contemporary prints, reflecting Tiwi culture and arts practices. Established in 1994, Ngaruwanajirri supports artists with disabilities, fostering exceptional creative skills and representing them in state galleries across Australia and worldwide.
