Mount Palmer, WA

Mount Palmer Townsite, established in 1934 following a significant gold discovery, was once a bustling mining hub in Western Australia's Yilgarn region. At its peak, the town boasted a population exceeding 500, featuring three hotels, a bakery, butcher, and two boarding houses. The Mount Palmer Hotel, constructed from bricks made at the Coolgardie Brick Works, was renowned for its expansive horseshoe-shaped bar. The hotel ceased operations in 1938, and the building was demolished, leaving behind only the large entrance archway and the cellar. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of the town, including the iconic arch, and view the concrete foundations of the mine buildings, treatment plants, and other structures. While the area offers a glimpse into its rich history, visitors are advised to exercise caution and adhere to all safety signage, as active mine sites remain in the vicinity.
