Mount Field Government Huts

Price on enquiry
Nestled at approximately 1,000 meters elevation in Mount Field National Park, the Government Huts offer a rustic retreat among snow gums and alpine moorland. Established in the 1940s for road workers, these five huts provide basic accommodation for up to six guests each. Amenities include bunk beds with mattresses, a cold-water sink, wood heater with supplied firewood, table, benches, and a communal composting toilet. Guests must be self-sufficient, bringing their own bedding, cooking equipment, and food. A valid park pass is required for entry. The huts are accessible via a 15-kilometer drive from the park entrance along Lake Dobson Road, a winding gravel road unsuitable for large vehicles. Road conditions can vary, especially during winter months; it's advisable to check current conditions before visiting. Bookings can be made up to six months in advance, with a minimum two-night stay. For more information or to make a reservation, contact the Kentish Visitor Centre at (03) 6491 1179.
