Perched on Low Island, approximately 13 kilometers northeast of Port Douglas, Queensland, the Low Isles Light has been guiding ships since 1878. This 18-meter conical tower, constructed with a timber frame and galvanized iron, is distinguished by its porthole windows—a first for Queensland lighthouses. The lighthouse operates automatically, powered by solar energy since 1993, and emits a white flash every ten seconds, visible up to 17 nautical miles. Visitors can access the island by boat, with day tours available from Cairns and Port Douglas, though the tower itself remains closed to the public.
