In 2025, the Inner West Council opened the oval to public access as a park, allowing residents to enjoy picnics and leisure activities on Wayne Pearce Hill during weekdays. The council has also proposed Leichhardt Oval as a permanent hub for women's sport, aiming to nurture the next generation of athletes. A $40 million upgrade, funded by the Commonwealth, State, and local governments, is planned to enhance facilities, including new female-friendly change rooms and increased seating capacity, ensuring the venue's future as a community and sporting hub.
