
HMAS Cerberus, established in September 1920, serves as the Royal Australian Navy's premier training establishment. Located 70 km from Melbourne near Crib Point on Hanns Inlet, Western Port Bay, it spans 1,517 hectares. The base trains approximately 6,000 personnel annually, including Navy, Army, and Air Force members. Training facilities encompass the School of Survivability and Ship Safety, Maritime Logistics Health, the Engineering Faculty, Defence Force School of Signals, Supply and Health Faculty, and the School of Music. The HMAS Cerberus Heritage and Learning Centre showcases a vast collection of artefacts, photographs, and memorabilia. The base features numerous training and recreation facilities, two chapels, a small marina, and attractive grounds. The surrounding beach and bushlands offer beautiful settings for walks and expeditions, with activities such as horse riding, trail bike riding, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking being popular in the region.
