The Gorgon LNG Plant, situated on Barrow Island approximately 60 kilometers off Western Australia's northwest coast, is among the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects and Australia's most significant single-resource development. This facility comprises three LNG trains with a combined capacity of 15.6 million tonnes per annum and a domestic gas plant capable of supplying 300 terajoules of gas daily to Western Australia. The project is a joint venture involving Chevron Australia (47.3%), ExxonMobil (25%), Shell (25%), Osaka Gas (1.25%), Tokyo Gas (1%), and Chubu Electric Power (0.417%). Barrow Island, designated as a Class A Nature Reserve, is home to diverse flora and fauna, many of which are rare or endangered on the mainland. Chevron's stringent environmental management practices, including the world's largest non-government quarantine initiative, have been recognized as industry benchmarks for balancing petroleum development with biodiversity protection. The Gorgon Project is expected to contribute to the Australian economy for decades, meeting global demand for cleaner-burning fuel.
