Dorre Island, located in Shark Bay, Western Australia, is part of the Bernier and Dorre Island Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The island is home to unique wildlife, including the banded hare-wallaby and the rufous hare-wallaby, both threatened species. Historically, from 1908 to 1919, Dorre Island, along with Bernier Island, served as a lock hospital for Aboriginal people suspected of having venereal diseases. Today, the island remains uninhabited and is accessible only with special permission to protect its delicate ecosystem.
