Established in 1907, Coogee Surf Life Saving Club is one of Australia's oldest and largest surf lifesaving clubs, with over 2,500 members ranging from 5 to 90 years old. The club's Nipper program engages approximately 1,000 children aged 5 to 13, teaching them surf skills every Sunday morning. Members aged 13 and above, having completed their Bronze Medallion, volunteer to patrol Coogee Beach on weekends and public holidays. The club boasts a proud record of no lives lost during patrols for over 110 years. In April 2025, Coogee SLSC received a $900,000 grant for a major refurbishment of the clubhouse's ground floor, including upgrades to amenities, changerooms, and the training room, enhancing facilities for volunteers and the public. The club also hosts the bi-annual Coogee Island Challenge, a 2.4 km swim around Wedding Cake Island, attracting hundreds of competitors each year.
