Comerong Island Nature Reserve, established in August 1986, spans 660 hectares and is part of the Shoalhaven Estuary, a globally significant habitat for various shorebirds and waders. Visitors can enjoy picnicking in the grassy area near the northern car park, and the reserve is a favored spot for recreational fishing, swimming, surfing, and birdwatching. Access to the island is via a cable ferry from Numbaa, operated by Shoalhaven City Council.
