Cape Barren Island, known as truwana, is a 478.4 km² island in Bass Strait, off Tasmania's north-east coast. As the second-largest of the Furneaux Group, it features Mount Munro, the highest point at 715 meters. The island's Aboriginal community, approximately 70 residents, descends from mixed European and Aboriginal ancestry, having relocated from smaller nearby islands in the late 1870s. The settlement, called The Corner, is situated on the north-west coast. The community maintains a peaceful environment, with residents actively managing local issues. The island is accessible via scheduled flights from Launceston and short boat trips from Flinders Island. Notably, the East Coast Lagoons are recognized as a Ramsar site, supporting diverse wildlife, including Australia's only native goose, the Cape Barren Goose.
