The Asylum at Port Arthur Historic Site, constructed between 1864 and 1868, was the final major building erected before the site's closure in 1877. Designed in a cruciform shape, it featured four wings radiating from a central dining hall, with an open verandah and a large fenced garden at the front. Initially housing convict patients, the building later served as a town hall and, after a 1895 bushfire, was rebuilt and now functions as a museum and café, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past.
