The Inneston Historic Walk, located within Innes National Park on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula, offers a captivating journey through a once-thriving gypsum-mining town from the early 1900s. This 2.0 km return trail, starting just inside the Inneston car park, takes approximately one hour to complete. Along the well-marked path, interpretive signs narrate the history of the close-knit community that once called Inneston home. The trail features restored miners' lodges, including the Engineers and Managers lodges, which offer stunning views across Inneston Lake, and Shepherds Hut, situated close to beautiful Shell Beach. Visitors can also stay overnight in one of the heritage cottages available at the old Inneston Township. The walk provides a unique opportunity to explore the ruins of an abandoned gypsum town, offering a glimpse into the past. Be aware of unstable ruins and ensure to carry enough water during your visit.
